Spinal Manipulation

General Overview

A chiropractic adjustment is a deliberate mechanical force delivered through a thrust in a precise direction to a specific segment, or group of segments in a joint complex, in your spine or extremities.  Adjustments help normalize spinal function, relieving pressure, pain, and dysfunction that are created by joints that are “stuck”, “locked up”, or not moving properly.

Living a full life often brings stress, injury, or repetitive movement patterns that can cause your spine and extremities to shift (or subluxate) out of anatomical alignment, limiting your body’s ability to function as it was meant to.  Bringing your body back into normal alignment will restore its natural healing process so you can reach optimum health more easily.

Dr. D is highly skilled in administering these specific adjustments effectively based on his initial assessment, history and exam. He will see which specific vertebra and or extremities are in need of it.  After an adjustment, you will experience some or all of the following: a sense of well-being or feeling of calmness (due to release of endorphins, which can induce feelings of pleasure and euphoria), symptom relief (due to releases endorphins and enkephalins, both natural pain killers in your body), and relaxation of surrounding muscles (due to your body’s response to a stretch reflex).

Adjustments also act as a reset button to your nervous system, exciting localized mechanoreceptors and proprioceptive nerves in your tissues, making your muscles and nerves more receptive to neuromuscular re-education of your movement patterns.  Learning how your body can move and function better is a lot easier after the immediate relief and effects experienced after your adjustments.
